To Be Full

A heart in every thought renewed

And full of love divine,
Perfect and right and pure and good,
A copy, Lord, of thine.
~Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”
~ from the burning heart of Jeremiah in chapter 20

Some days.  Oh my.

To be in Him is to be so full of joy… so full of pain… so full…  so (finally) real.

We, who are His, do indeed begin to take on His mind.  And dare we say that He even begins to give us His very heart?

Yeah, it is true.

Upon a full surrender to Him, we begin to experience this incredible torrent in our existence.  It both threatens to tear us apart and is the very Power that holds us together.  It is the Power that made the worlds and called light itself into existence.  It is the current that now gives light and hope and peace and quiet and clarity to our dreams.  We begin to experience God.  And because He is this, what we begin to feel is the reality of Love; the very Love that holds our Triune Creator together in Unity.

And this Love fills us full.  It overwhelms us, but even in the flood there seem to be distinct currents.

Love unrequited
Love lost
Love rejected
Love accepted
Love fought
Love reported
Love experienced
Love given
Love shared

And on and on and on.

And then as this writer was swimming in this same torrent of joy and pain today, it hit me clearly in my spirit that this is who G_d is.  He does not change.  He does not flop around.  He does not simply love.  He is Love.  And He experiences all these things in His relationship with every human being in His creation.

And in this same moment i got this incredible picture of Him.  This utterly wonderful, utterly beautiful, utterly full Lover of our souls will always Love us – for He is who He is.  And we all have the opportunity to Live and love and move with Him in this space forever.

So yeah, the circumstances of life are often very hard.  But in light of the truth of His Love, do not these circumstances seem very small indeed?  Surely they do.

Fountain of good, all blessing flows
From thee; no want thy fullness knows;
What but thyself canst thou desire?
Yet, self-sufficient as thou art,
Thou dost desire my worthless heart;
This, only this, dost thou require.
~Johann Scheffler (1624-1677)
