Bring It On – Real Battle

When the work presses, and the battle thickens, and the day seems long in coming, it is good for the heart to remember that the present conflict is with defeated foes, and that there is no room for question as to the final issue, for the Man of Nazareth is not only seated in the place of authority, he carries forward the work of active administration.
~G. Campbell Morgan (1863-1945)

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!”  And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
~ Isaiah, in the book of the same name, chapter 6

Oh beloved, it is true.  He is most surely our King.

He is, in Himself, an army ready and poised for battle.  He is the L_RD of hosts.  He is (and this writer speaks the name with the knee of his spirit bent): YHWH Elohe Tzevaot.

At this Name, none shall stand in defiance.  At this Name, foolishness will cease.  At this Name, shall we come undone.  And to see the face of the One who’s Name this is means only death.

Even those who called to each other – those with voices which shook the very foundations of the thresholds of the throne room of G_d – had to shield their eyes from His beauty and goodness; for most surely they would have been consumed.

And I said: “Woe is me! For I am undone; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

And it is this One who has made Himself our Friend – and made us His friend.

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Oh my.

Can we see it?  The battle is over.  He won it before it even commenced.  He laughs at the foolishness of anything that might even conceive of setting itself up against who He was, who He is, and who He shall always and forevermore be.

And it is this One who has made us His dwelling place.  We are now His temple, bought at the price of His very own Blood.  We are the presence of G_d in this world. And this, as difficult as this is to believe, it is simply and profoundly true.

So, as the minions of evil squawk and bark and nip at the edges of our lives, we can be assured of one thing most sure:  nothing can hurt us.  For it is the same L_RD who motivates seraphim to genuflect, who Lives both in us – and through us.  And beyond this, He has clothed us in His own armor of Light and Righteousness and armed us with His own Word to combat the fiery darts and doubts cast by the evil one.

So further, come if you desire accuser.

However, you will only continue to lose.  For the reality is that all of your deceitful activity will come to naught but your own torture and damnation.  And those made righteous will behold Him face to face as inheritor, son, spouse, lover and friend – forever.

Be gone liar.

Wherever souls are being tried and ripened, in whatever commonplace and homely way, there God is hewing out the pillars for his temple.
~Phillips Brooks (1835-1893)
