He Is Our Banner

Yeah, we are proud of the young warrior training at Ft. Jackson.  Join me in the morning watches to pray for his safety, his success, and his mission.   Many thanks to those readers who do.  scot

If I may be so bold (while I did serve the 51st Signal Battalion under the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA)… it was only as a civilian contractor to VII Corps, USAREUR Germany) – but here goes anyway: Hooah son.  You are almost there.  Well done.

You have probably heard the saying by Von Clausewitz: “No campaign plan survives first contact with the enemy.”  You gotta train.  You gotta plan.  Zero doubt.  Just remember, it’s always going to get strange before it gets clear.  And it just might get stranger than you think it’s going to, before anything starts to make sense.  I know you are already learning this stuff… I only say this to make the following point.

In the Old Testament, our God is called “Jehovah-Nissi.” It means: “God is our Banner.”  HE is the One that sets up the battles in our lives.  He is the One that fights them for us.  And HE is the One that accomplishes victory.  Bottom-line:  Things can look really dark, really weird, really different than we expect, and even really good… but HE IS IN CONTROL.

We live our lives best when filled with simple heroic Grace in action.  That Grace flowing from God, who knows how to fight and win battles.  Like Matthew 6:33 says:  “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

So, finish this training well brother.  Just keep God in the center of your sights.  Let Him author your success.  Let the Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13) pour out of your life onto the men you now lead.  Don’t worry about failing Him… you can never be good enough.  That’s not the point.  He doesn’t want your goodness, he just wants your inner man (your heart).

In Him, we just go.  Infinite power.  All from Him.  Really good stuff.

Soli Deo Gloria,
Dad
