Turn Off the TV?

Anchored to the Rock: Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.” John Wesley

In His presence is the fullness of Joy.  Yet, entertainment, technology and culture seem to be the devil’s substitute for that pure joy.  Oh boy. Now i’m stepping in it.

Next, he’s gonna tell us to turn off our TVs!  “Martha!!  That crazy man is writing in his blog again!”

Yeah, that’s what i’m suggesting.  Turn off your TV.  Reinvest that time in your life.  Pray, play, talk, pray, exercise, cook, read, pray, sleep, pray….  Did i mention prayer?

Today at church, our pastor talked about the need for humility and forgiveness across the congregation.  It was a wonderful message.  Lot’s of truth told in love to many hundreds.   Reconcilliation just sprang forth as people greeted one another, hugged and prayed together.  This was, perhaps, one of the most important moments in the 40+ year life of this local body.  Stunning in its beauty.  Wonderful to behold.

But, then what happened?  How many of us went home and just plopped down in front of the filth pumps we’ve allowed into our homes and forgot all about what happened?  Oh beloved!  All of it… The whole world is designed to distract us from the important things in life.  Be awake!  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).

When the important stuff happens.  Stop.  When we hear the important stuff,  we should stay and listen.  When we see the important stuff, let us watch and wait.   And above all, may we pray without ceasing.  ESPECIALLY, when there are spiritual gains in our midst.

Come away friends.  The whole world is fading away.  There is a great banquet along the entire frontier of His AMAZING Grace, just waiting for us.

Put down the remote beloved.  Come and play.  Taste and see.  Dance with Him tonight.
