A Maundy Thursday Prayer for Peace and Salvation

A Prayer from Ephesians 2 and Revelation 5

Blessed Father and Beloved Son and Precious Holy Spirit, help us to remember that we were once separated and living apart from Jesus Christ – and were excluded from every part in Him…
We were utterly estranged and outlawed from the rights of your chosen people. Help us remember, that at one time, we had no hope. We were destitute and alone in the world without you God.

But now in your Son Christ Jesus, we who once were so far away, by and through and in the blood of Christ have been brought near. So very near. And now so very dear to your heart – and Your great heart to ours. For You Jesus – You – Your very Self, are our Peace.

You Jesus, became this Peace for us by abolishing with Your own crucified flesh, the enmity caused by the Law with its rules and commands. You brought all this to an end and declared it null and void – through Your Life and Death and Resurrection.

LORD God of all Creation. Maker and Redeemer of us all. May we, on this celebration of your death, now remember why You did all of this for all of us.

May we like all the living creatures and the elders near your Throne, gaze upon You, The Lamb, standing amongst us, as though slain, yet utterly complete in Authority, completely in control, seeing all things, and having poured out your Spirit on all mankind.

May we look to you, and fall down before the You – The Lamb of God, who takes away our sins – may our prayers rise like incense before your Presence… And may we sing the new song of the redeemed, saying,

“Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for You Jesus were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and You Jesus have made us a kingdom and priests to You Yourself, our God, and we shall reign on the earth.”

Then Holy Father (and dearest Papa), may we look to the coming Day, when around Your throne the voices of millions of millions of living creatures and elders and angels say together with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honour and glory and blessing!”

And upon hearing this astounding roar of praise, we – every creature in all of creation will respond

“To You Father Who sits on the throne and to You Jesus, the Lamb, be blessing and honour and glory and might for ever and ever!”
Amen!

Let us worship the LORD together.
