Wasted, Drained, Done

If Satan cannot distract you with worldliness, he will seek to drain you with weariness.
~ Francis Frangipane

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

~ Jesus, King of The Universe, in Matthew 11

Oh beloved, it is true. There comes times in our walk where He pushes us to the limit of our ability to function. And it is in times like this that the crucial growth really happens. But even so, we are tired.

Pain can indeed be the sensation of weakness leaving the body, but quite often it is simply the result of the abrasions we can receive from doing the right thing.  And under continuous agitation, we get sensitive, and we hurt.

People who say they love us, seem to take the word very lightly, and cast it away completely, at the first sign of any negative feeling that emerges within them. And even their apologies become something we wonder whether we can trust.

Politics scrape against our thinking. We see the fallacy of the fight over words, while nothing gets done. People are left behind, and the grinding evolution of the democratic dream devolves into chaos over and over again.

Pain. Continuous. Chronic. Pain.  Oh, we have learned to not instantly turn to the things that used to bring us fleeting comfort, but we can hear their voice through some euphoric recall of relief.

We pour into the lives of others. We Love them. We care for them. We share with them. We don’t really expect them to love us back anymore – but something within us wishes that they would sometimes. We hurt for the lack of reciprocity.

We go to Him. And He most surely tells us He is with us; that He will never leave us. We know it is true. We are not dismayed. And still we hurt.

Something within us tells us we should not feel the feelings that we do. We are utterly convinced that everything is going to be OK one day. We believe Him. We trust Him. We hope in Him. And He has never let us down. Still we hurt.

There is a wasting going on in our souls. Strength we used to have has dwindled to precipitously low levels. We can hear Him. And He tells us to keep going.

“Father, i am tired.”

“Yes beloved. Keep going. You are almost Home. I AM able to sustain you.”

“Papa, they hate me.”

“No. They just don’t understand you. There are very few sons who begin to grow into maturity.”

“Why…?”

“Rest child. When you are tired. You don’t think as well. You are powerful beyond boundaries you ever comprehended before, but you are not unstoppable.”

“But Papa, i thought you said keep going.”

“Yes. I always say what I mean. I AM the Truth.”

“Rest… And keep going?”

“Exactly. You were never designed to do the work I want to do through you son. You were designed to strive to enter the rest I have for you. And in finding that space, my power can be manifested most effectively THROUGH you.  You are a channel of my Grace to others.”

“Why do i always forget that?”

“Have you remembered now my precious child?”

“Yes Papa.”

“You are learning. I am so exceedingly happy with you. I AM well-pleased in you son. Your Brother prays for you all the time and I AM answering His prayers on your behalf. It is my glory and joy to do so.”

“But i am failing nearly as much as i succeed.”

“I know. But I also know the moment of every crucial breakthrough you will encounter in your walk with Me. I AM already waiting for you in each of those beautiful moments.  Keep going son. You are almost Home.”

“Oh Father. Oh how i Love You!”

“I Love you more child. Just rest. Well done. Almost Home.”

So, are you feeling the exhaustion of walking the path He has set before you beloved? Talk to Him. He is there. The two of you can talk as long as you need to. He will never leave you, nor forsake you.

Talk to him in prayer of all your wants, your troubles, even of the weariness you feel in serving him. You cannot speak too freely, too trustfully to him.
~François Fénelon (1651-1715)
