Don’t Block The Flow

As for that which is beyond your strength, be absolutely certain that our Lord loves you, devotedly and individually, loves you just as you are. . . . Accustom yourself to the wonderful thought that God loves you with a tenderness, a generosity, and an intimacy that surpasses all your dreams. Give yourself up with joy to a loving confidence in God and have courage to believe firmly that God’s action toward you is a masterpiece of partiality and love. Rest tranquilly in this abiding conviction.
–Abbe Henri de Tourville (1842–1903)

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

— John 13:34-35
For most of us, it is so easy for us to believe that we should love one another.  But for just as many, it is so hard to believe that G_d really loves us.
Maybe we can handle that Christ included us among the list of those being saved by His work on the cross.  Maybe we can even believe that He will have mercy on us on judgement day.  But to believe that:

Right here… Right now.  G_d Loves you with a beyond white-hot passion.  He Loves you oceans more than the strongest desire you have ever had.  This is hard.

As hard as this is, though, its the only way the Gospel really works in our lives.  Bluntly, the level to which we accept the Biblical truth that G_d truly Loves us – is the level to which we are able to share love with other people.  If there is ANY hesitancy here, we are quite literally blocking the flow of His Holy Spirit in and through our lives.  We are shading the light on the hill, or contaminating the savor of the saltiness of our lives.

This takes faith, but believer, G_d has given each one of us a measure of this precious catalyst of His grace.  The amount doesn’t matter here, it’s faith.  Let’s take what we have been given and crank it up to like 12 on a scale of 10 – then rip the knob off the console.

Consumed in Love by Him we begin to pour out love on others as we were designed.  As we stay absolutely open and abandoned to the truth of His Love for us, we begin to develop an astonishing bandwidth in our ability to truly love other people.  It can just gush out of us, because we’ve become convinced of two things: His Love for us is REAL and it NEVER runs out.

His Love just goes on and on and on and on and on and…..

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
— Ephesians 5:1-2

If you were the only person on earth, Christ would have still suffered and died for you.
— Saint Augustine of Hippo (A.D. 354-430)
