Full-Contact Christianity

He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS;
~ Revelation 2:26

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

~ Romans 8:37

Oh beloved, a Christian life walked out in spiritual battle is sometimes a messy, messed up mess. And while our sight is faith-based, and accurate – we often do not know how to use it.

And life is a full-contact affair. We often are Led to hammer into problems – and they most surely hammer into us. The effects of these collisions are (to us) out of control.

And our (and this fool of a writer’s!) pride often clouds a clear picture of any landscape that we might even see.

And while the Full-armor we wear is impenetrable (it doesn’t even dent or scratch), we often do not wear it well, and we forget that it has no back panel.

And we can’t trust anyone on our side either, so collateral damage is almost a given. Even the ones close to us may default to using even horrible situations to gain an advantage to their relative positions.

And fellow soldiers go down around us. Mostly taken out by the deadly “I” within them that tries to stand on the battlefield without the aforementioned armor of Light. This “I” manifesting in addiction, or lust or pride or sloth or greed or or or or or or…. Any one, or any combination create deadly and destructive force all around.

And then, to complicate the issue, one of the most vital of these problems is that we have two enemies. First, there is the devil. But then there is the old us (me!). And both of these enemies would (falsely) want us to believe that our our actual allies (the brethren) are actually the ones to fight.

We are in a desperate struggle here. Things do not look good at all. Not one bit…

But, there is a Way.

The only one we can trust is the One in charge.

Can we see it though? He has already won this war! He is already on the parade ground with the victory banner of the armies of the LORD OF HOSTS flung straight out in the Wind of His very own Spirit.

We have but to look to it.

We have but to call out to Him.

We have but to stand in His strength.

We have but to walk on the path He has already prepared for us.

Would that we might do just this tonight! Would that we might come into full contact with those fellow soldiers fallen next to us, and help carry them forward to the Help they need.

Can you hear it? That snapping in the wind? That beautiful banner of the Lamb waving in Zion’s breeze is calling us home.

Get up beloved. Stand in Christ. Stand arm-in-arm with each other. Just one more march. We are almost home!

You are but a poor soldier of Christ if you think you can overcome without fighting, and suppose you can have the crown without the conflict.
~Saint John Chrysostom c. 347-407
