Flying Above The Fray

In Christ we are relaxed and at peace in the midst of the confusions, bewilderments, and perplexities of this life. The storm rages, but our hearts are at rest. We have found peace—at last!
~Billy Graham (1918- )

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows My name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.

God far more dwells in me than if the entire sea
Would in a tiny sponge wholly contained be.
~Angelus Silesius (1624-1677)

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
~ Colossians 1:27

Oh beloved, it is true. We live in a mystery when we live it Christ. There are things that are so mind-blowing, as to to be beyond a very good imagination for us to comprehend. The following is one of the best. Read on, and may you be set free to a live a life beyond your wildest dreams.

So which is it?

Is Christ in me? Or am i in Him?

Yes.

And in terms of mystery, this one pretty much takes the cake. The One who created eternity, and enfolded Himself in it for the purpose of interface with existence – now FULLY dwells in the believer. And in just about the same way, we are in ALL in Him.

Oh by the way, this is a very good position in which to be.

Further, this is an infinite many-to-many relationship that cannot be explained within the four dimensions we currently comprehend. And it is a relationship that very likely outstrips the constraints of the eleven dimensions physics now posits as existing.

One dimension here is the infinite protection afforded to the one who is one with The One who made this relationship possible. In Him, he takes our lives to incredible heights. We are not bullet-proof. No, bullets simply are not a relevant factor in our existence.

Additionally, we begin to have an actual effect in our environment. We pray and things happen. We love others and their lives get better. We share our meager supplies and people get blessed.

Then, He begins to accelerate our lives to immense velocities. We begin to do things we never, ever thought possible. We touch people’s bodies, and they are healed. We tell demons to leave, and they do. We speak the Gospel, and dead homo sapiens become eternally-living human beings. All glory to G_d alone!

All this is possible, because we live in Him. We move in Him. We have our being in Him. And as we dwell in Him alone – all things are possible. The possibilities are simply infinite. And without Him, these things are simply impossible.

So, there is here introduced, an infinite coefficient of friction. If we, even for a moment, pull away and out from under the protection of an infinite G_d, and then attempt to do any of these works in our own strength – we instantly become unable to accomplish them. It is like we try to take the paper airplane that we are, open the hatch, and jump out to continue flying alongside an X-15 hyper-sonic jet flying at full speed.

Not gonna happen. All these works take infinite strength. And we (in case you had not noticed) are not infinite.

Goofy, right? But how often do we try to do just this kind of thing?

Perhaps tonight, beloved, we could be persuaded of something. This is all about Him. He is the Source of strength. He is the Prime Mover. He is the Protector. It is Him Who gives us the value and purpose we have always wanted. Anything we bring to the equation only brings in a turbulent drag that pulls us out of an infinite slip-stream of His power and grace.

When Christians say the Christ-life is in them, they do not mean simply something mental or moral. When they speak of being “in Christ” or of Christ being “in them,” this is not simply a way of saying that they are thinking about Christ or copying him. They mean that Christ is actually operating through them; that the whole mass of Christians are the physical organism through which Christ acts—that we are his fingers and muscles, the cells of his body.

~C. S. Lewis (1898-1963)
