Loved And Lovable

Love is a believing creature.
~Ovid

You’re so beautiful, my darling, so beautiful, and your dove eyes are veiled by your hair as it flows and shimmers, like a flock of goats in the distance streaming down a hillside in the sunshine. Your smile is generous and full—expressive and strong and clean. Your lips are jewel red, your mouth elegant and inviting, your veiled cheeks soft and radiant. The smooth, lithe lines of your neck command notice—all heads turn in awe and admiration! Your breasts are like fawns,  twins of a gazelle, grazing among the first spring flowers. The sweet, fragrant curves of your body, the soft, spiced contours of your flesh invite me, and I come. I stay until dawn breathes its light and night slips away. You’re beautiful from head to toe, my dear love, beautiful beyond compare, absolutely flawless.
~ Jesus, to you, in Song of Songs 4

Oh beloved, it is true. There are days when we just get through without falling back into the things that drew us away from Him. And then there are days, usually but a few moments behind the storm, that make it all worth it.

Usually, it is when we remember the simplest things about things. G_d Loves us. Really. But then it goes beyond the fact that He just Loves us.

We are lovable.

This is the hard one. Because we see the manifold and ongoing failures in ourselves. We are so disappointed in who we are, and the evil one does not let up for a moment with the accusations.

And then we remember.

The new creation we have become is not just some legislative finding, or some sort of Jedi mind trick. No, we really are a new creation in Christ. We are alive and real and whole and beautiful.

Lovely.

What if we acted on this reality? What if we began to live like the lovable beloved of G_d? What kind of change would we bring to a room or workplace or school or church if we breezed in like the bride just back from a ravishingly wonderful honeymoon?

We are, you know.

It was a good day for this fool of a writer. But it could be a very good day for you too, and nothing has to change, except for you to believe who you are – as a believer in Him.  Tonight is your night beloved. Time to believe you are both Loved from forever, and lovable now.

In the very beginning, when this great universe lay in the mind of God, like unborn forests in the acorn-cup; long ere the echoes waked the solitudes, before the mountains were brought forth, and long ere the light flashed through the sky, God loved his chosen creatures.
~Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)
