What if You Had No "Why?" - Warrior of The Presence

What if You Had No “Why?”

Shall we think that with our tiny brains we can unravel the mysteries of Him who made the whole vast cosmos? He who causes things to be must smile in great pity when He hears men talking about some day finding out, of their own selves, the secrets of matter, and of life, and of death, and of Him.

— Bernard Iddings Bell (1886–1958)

“ For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts… So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
— Isaiah 55:8-9,11

OK… so we are gonna get a touch theological here.  Don’t worry!  Let’s just see where He leads us.

A. W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”  This truth manifests itself in our lives.  It directly affects our willingness to trust and submit to our Creator.  It is the filter through which we SHOULD run all of our thinking.

But as it is written: “ Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God…. not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
— from 1 Cor 2:9-14

So, we run smack dab into the end of our ability to think, when we really try to get a handle on deep and important issues about G_d.  But G_d (oh, i LOVE that phrase in His Word!) can give us a clue in our inner man as we allow His Spirit to teach us.

Here’s a zinger.  Why does G_d Love us?

Answer:  He Loves us.

Wait a minute.  i said “why.”

There is no why.  He is G_d.  He is Who He Is.

What?

OK, just rest in this for moment.  G_d is.  He doesn’t simply exist.  Existence actually flows forth from Him.  Existence and everything and eternity and infinity are constructs within His was, is, and is-to-come-ness.

Said more simply:  He is the well-spring of existence.

In Him there is no “motivation” or “because.”  He is the Prime-Motivator.  He is the Prime-Cause.  Nothing flows into Him so as to add to or change Him. Time does not affect Him, because He is across and beyond all time. Everything flows FROM Him.

So, what does all this mean?

G_d Loves us as a simple result of His desire to Love us.  He is sovereign, even over Himself – which means He can do absolutely what He pleases.  And whatever He does is, by definition, Right and Good. And further, that which is Right and Good does not change, for neither does He.

Beloved, are you starting to get a feel for this?  We are talking about something mysterious and altogether wonderful!  G_d, quite simply, could have done whatever He wanted in regards to us.  Yet, He sovereignly chose to pour ALL of Himself out onto us – and into us – in His Love.  He Loves us.  No reason… no because… no motivation.  No principle or standard or law that would break down somewhere in deep eternity.  Rather, His Love is a constant.  It was, and is, and is to come.  He says it, therefore it is.  And from that flows that His Love is true… forever.

And, oh by the way, His Love is ALL the good stuff of the Biggest, Best, Most Goodest One ever!  Surely, this is not very technical.  But, this fool of a writer is not trying to teach you.  Let’s let the Holy Spirit do that.

Think you can believe in gravity?  The evidence is weak for gravity in comparison to the argument that G_d Loves us.

So, back to Tozer for a minute: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

What if we accepted the universal constant of G_d’s Love in our lives? (Seems silly to ask… but how many of us live like it’s not true – or won’t humble ourselves to this truth?).  How might this constant change our lives?

No, how would the constant of G_d’s Love NOT change every single aspect of the existence of a person who fully submitted to this truth!?!?

Oh beloved!  Be beloved!  Be being beloved!

“And since then, O Kings and Ladies,
I have been wandering to find him
and my happiness is so great
that it even weakens me like a wound.
And this is the marvel of marvels,
that he called me, Beloved,
me who am but as a dog.”
~Emeth, “The Last Battle” C.S. Lewis
