TransJordan Hyperviolence

The devil never sleeps, and your flesh is very much alive. Prepare yourself for battle. Surrounding you are enemies that never rest.
~Thomas à Kempis (c. 1380-1471)

It is for freedom that we have been set free.  It is the only space that true Love may exist.  Only in absolute freedom can we become each other’s bondservants.  Love will mature and grow and strengthen every day.  It will get harder – but in the difficulty will be the easiness of the path of the Spirit.  We learn to Love each other so much that we can become one mind, one body, one soul, one spirit.  This is Love.  This is what He is bringing about in us beloved.

And the evil one does not like this.  Not one bit… Too bad devil.  G_d wins.

The gorgeous picture of victory in the Old Testament is the crossing of the seminal nation of Israel over the Jordan river into the promised land.  Yeah, it was a land filled with milk and honey.  It was also a land filled with many very mean and nasty countries and cultures.  The winning of peace required epic and protracted hyperviolence against evil.

It is vital to remember that Scripture is always applicable to our situation today.  Have no doubt, as we go across the Jordan in our lives, the evil one is going to throw whatever he is allowed to throw at us.  Spiritual, mental, physical, financial, logistical and relational stress will be poured out on us in ever-increasing measure as we move forward into enemy territory.

And it is even more vital to remember something else.  It is Him who fights these battles in and through our lives.  If we try to do it on our own – we WILL be defeated.  However, (and in this writer’s habit of deferring to experts)…

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
 will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
  and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with His pinions,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    His faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
    and see the recompense of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge—
no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.
For He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the adder;
    the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
“Because he holds fast to Me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows My name.
When he calls to Me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him My salvation.”
~ Psalm 91
