Unfathomable Weight of Glory

What a book! Great and wide as the world, rooted in the abysmal depths of creation and rising aloft into the blue mysteries of heaven. Sunrise and sunset, promise and fulfillment, birth and death, the whole human drama, everything is in this book. It is the book of books, Biblia.
~Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.  And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
~ Ephesians 1:16-23

Trying to absorb the depths of the Bible is like trying to mop up the ocean floor with a sponge… We find the Bible difficult because we try to read it as we would read any other book, and it is not the same as any other book.
~A. W. Tozer (1897-1963)

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
~ Isaiah 40:8

Oh beloved, the deeper we go into His Word, we begin to see that it is like going into the ocean depths.  As we get deeper, the weight of the truths exerts a crushing pressure on our flesh and spirit.

Intellect and study begin (quickly) to fail as tools to actually understand what is going on here.  It is Him speaking to us directly through the words of a miraculously constructed book of books.  Oh yeah, we gotta study.  And, oh yeah, we can prove the book itself is true.  Any student willing to take a little time, especially in this age of information, can look to any number of exhaustive resources on the validity of the book itself.

However, it is WAY deeper than this.  Again, it is Him and the weight of His Glory that simply begins to overwhelm us.  We cannot resist the change.  It is all about Him, His Truth, His Spirit, and His Glory.  His Word hammers into the deep crevices of who we are.

We begin to come undone.

Try an experiment.

Don’t test G_d.  He never fails.  Test your own spirit and see if He doesn’t speak right to you.  Take a passage (try Romans 8, for example), get alone and read it out loud.  Read it straight through like you are reading a letter from SomeOne to you (you are).  Just listen as you read.  Don’t try to intellectualize.  Don’t try to understand.  Just listen to Him speak as you read.  Just try it…  Then, take the same passage, and do the same thing later in the day, or the next day.  I will guarantee you something.  He will use the passage to communicate additional truth the second, third, fourth, and so on time through.

HE is amazing.

Friends, the Bible is not a book about G_d.  It is G_d telling us about Himself.  Would that we would take large portions of our day to listen to Him this way!

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
~ Hebrews 4:12
