Our King

I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the horse from Jerusalem;
And the bow of war will be cut off.
And He will speak peace to the nations;
And His dominion will be from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
Deliverance of Judah and Ephraim
As for you also, because of the blood of My covenant with you,
I have set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
Return to the stronghold, O prisoners who have the hope;
This very day I am declaring that I will restore double to you.
~ Zechariah 9:10-11

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The One sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems, and He has a name written that no one knows but himself.  He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.  From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on his thigh he has a name written, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
~ Revelation 19:11-16

Oh beloved, two things are most surely true.

Jesus saves us to the uttermost.

And Jesus will not just save us FROM evil.  He will indeed smash and crush evil into oblivion.

Jesus is not just King of the Universe – though He is that.  He is the Conceiver, Creator, Sustainer and Finisher of existence itself.

And the universe we see is but the dregs of a minute remainder of the actual energy that went into its creation.  We know this to be true even with our limited understanding of physics.  Matter beat out antimatter in mass by just the tiniest fraction – and the remaining balance after the annihilation of the preponderance is the gargantuan, gorgeous stage of His glory we can observe today.

And even the whole thing is that which was spoken into being by a few words of the Word Himself.

This is our King.

And it was this Righteous, Gorgeous, Powerful, Virtuous, Honorable, Loving King who tore Himself asunder and bled that we might be His bride.

So, can we see something here in these passages?  G_d is not mad at people and judging them because they make lots of mistakes, or even because they do evil things.  No, our King is furious at a humanity that simply dismisses His great power to save them and tries to do it themselves.  We see all the way throughout Scripture that our King is ever merciful to absolutely anyone that seeks that mercy sincerely – no caveats.

And in just the same way, we see all the way through Scripture that our King will allow anyone to try and stand on their own merits before His greatness – no caveats.  Humanity is free.  However, if we try to stand on our own merits – it will be a fair contest.  And that contest will be all the power and goodness of G_d vs. all the power and goodness of the man who wants to try and compete.  The result, though, in all cases is never in doubt.  G_d wins.  G_d’s weakness simply overwhelms our best strength with a crushing fury.

This King even shows the key to the whole story here.  Life takes death to find it.  Jesus had to die that we might live in Him.  So, it is His blood that make it all possible.  And the model here is directly applicable to each of us today.  We must die to ourselves that He might Live in us.  We must give up any hope in ourselves and yield to the Kingship of the only one worthy to hold the title: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

This is our King.

Would that we all might become His subjects tonight!

I recognize Power passing mine, immeasurable, God.
~Robert Browning (1812-1889)
