Glorious Love

I’m so bored of little gods while standin’ on the edge of something large.
While standin’ here so close to you…
we – could – be – consumed.
What a glorious day…  I rest my face on this ground.
So, sweet this surrender!
How great This Love for us!
  – David Crowder Band

No wonder we get bored when we think of god.  We filter the whole thing through the net of our own limited minds and senses.  And no matter what… we come to an end.  We idolize an inadequate god of our own making and we end up in the same place we started: prideful, selfish, evil and… alone.

But then one day He comes.  The One who was there before there was a beginning… yeah, that One.  And He bulldozes us with His glorious Love.  He hammers our existence to nothing.
And then fills it with… Himself.
Oh beloved, some of you know this is true!  But, to those of you who haven’t allowed this to happen it seems so frightening, so condescending, so hard.  And it is hard.  It’s impossible without the Grace of G_d to even have the faith to overcome the fear to let Him come in.  But just ask Him

·         For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place.   For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.  Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.  I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.  – From Jeremiah 29

Ask Him, just really ask Him, and this Magnificent, Splendorous, Beautiful, Wonderful, Grand and Brilliant One will come and give you His peace.   Oh please!  Ask Him!  HE WILL DO IT!  All He wants is everything.  And i simply speak this truth:  My everything is nothing compared to Him.

His Glory is not just some beautiful light emanating towards us.  Surely, it’s beautiful, but it’s more like the pressure-wave created by a huge ship in the ocean as it displaces thousands of tons of seawater; or like the crushing force of a mountain that compacts pure carbon into diamond.

In the flesh, pure, whole physical intimacy with a spouse is the closest analog to the glorious presence of G_d in our being.  And however wonderful those physical, soul-full moments are, they are but a pin-prick in comparison to a moment in the spiritually overwhelming, consuming presence of The One who is all that is Love.

Reader, His Love is real, and He wants you to experience it.   And almost as sure as this truth is true, each of us knows what we need to let go that He might have His way with us.   Won’t you let Him have it friend?
As for that which is beyond your strength, be absolutely certain that our Lord loves you, devotedly and individually, loves you just as you are. . . . Accustom yourself to the wonderful thought that God loves you with a tenderness, a generosity, and an intimacy that surpasses all your dreams. Give yourself up with joy to a loving confidence in God and have courage to believe firmly that God’s action toward you is a masterpiece of partiality and love. Rest tranquilly in this abiding conviction.
